Boats and Burns

Last Saturday we went out on the water with my parents & sisters to watch the Blue Angels for Seafair. Mom & Dad got Gramp's speedboat a couple weeks ago and have been "getting their feet wet" as boating people (a little boat humor for you).

They close the area south of I-90 and you can't be in there unless you're tied up to the logboom, which I guess is pretty expensive. So we tooled down the lake from Bothell and stopped just north of I-90 to watch the show. As you can see, a LOT of other people do the same thing.
Bret quite enjoyed floating out on the water next to the boat, and at one point asked me if he was getting red because he felt hot. Well he didn't look red (ever notice that? while you're getting burned you rarely notice how bad it's getting!) and since he's the one that tans and I'm the one that burns, we went on about our day!

I had put sunscreen on my face and arms but not my legs...silly Cheryl. Bret didn't have any sunscreen on at all. Silly Bret. We're awfully smiley for a couple of silly people who are really going to regret it later...
Laura had to work that afternoon so we dropped her off at the dock at Magnuson Park (where she'd parked her scooter) so she could go to work from there. After that, we tried out towing someone on the inner tube. Bret was the first test subject. He lost his Teva's but we ended up finding both of them floating in the area. Hurrah!

Then it was Mom & Christina's turn. You might not be able to tell by the look on her face, but Christina was actually having a good time (I swear that girl can't do a normal picture smile...I don't know how many times I have gone to take a picture and said "smile for real, Christina!!")

Then mom decided she'd had enough and Christina braved it alone. Apparently she can smile for real (if she's inner-tubing and has her eyes closed while water's splashing in her face...perhaps a difficult situation to re-create for every future picture where I want her to smile normally).

...And then Dad decided he wanted to try some crazier driving and of course Bret was game!

That night we discovered we had sunburns. My legs were bright red and Bret's chest, shoulders, and back were completely fried. We were not so smiley for the next couple of days, Bret especially. I really hope we've learned our lesson!

That looks like SO much fun!!! The kids, Paul and I would've loved to have joined you all. Although I'm not quite sure we would've fit! LOL!!

Lame about the sunburns. We've had our share of burns this summer, too. You think we'd live and learn ... yet every summer we think we'll be OK.

Hope you are healing well ... with no (or minimal) peeling. But, something tells me you would enjoy peeling off the skin. wink wink ...
